What is a Guarantee Fee?
A Guarantee Fee is the compensation paid to a bank (issuing bank) for assuming the risk of guaranteeing a customer's obligation to a third-party beneficiary. It covers the bank's credit risk, administrative costs, and capital allocation requirements under Basel frameworks.
Calculation and factors
- Formula: Fee = Guarantee Amount × Annual Rate (%) × Duration (days/360).
- Typical rates: 0.5%–2% per annum depending on customer creditworthiness, collateral, and guarantee type.
- Types: Performance guarantee, bid bond, advance payment guarantee, financial guarantee — each may carry different fee rates.
