What is Documentary Collection?

Documentary Collection is a trade finance instrument governed by ICC URC 522, where an exporter's bank (remitting bank) forwards shipping documents to the importer's bank (collecting bank) with instructions to release documents only upon payment (D/P) or acceptance of a draft (D/A).
